How to get from Ben Gurion Airport to Jerusalem?

How to get from Ben Gurion Airport to Jerusalem?: People who come to Palestine are eager to visit the city of Jerusalem. The city has a long and complicated history with many different invasions, conquerors and rulers living in the city for decades.  This is city is special because it is important to the three main monotheistic religions: Islam, Christianity and Judaism.

Many people who plan to come to Palestine through Ben Gurion airport head to Jerusalem first, either to stay a bit in the city and look around or to catch a bus or taxi from the central station in Jerusalem. If you plan to travel to Jerusalem from the airport in Tel Aviv here are the main means of transportation you will find upon arriving at Ben Gurion airport.

 Shared Taxi

Shared taxis are an option at a reasonable price and they do not wait far from the airport. The trip will take about forty minutes from the airport to Jerusalem and the price is roughly $18 per passenger. However keep in mind that the Taxi will not leave until it has filled all its seats with passengers which can mean you may have to wait some time.

Bus

If you are a fan of buses and you want to save your money, then take a shuttle from the airport to Jerusalem. The bus company’s name is “Egged” and the number you must take is 947.

Every 20 minutes there is a bus that takes you from the airport to the central bus station in Jerusalem. The buses start to operate from around 6 in the morning till ten in the night. Although buses are much cheaper than the taxi and other means of transportation but they take longer to get Jerusalem. Buses take around 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach the central station.

Train

Trains are the longest way to get to Jerusalem from the airport. It takes twice as long as the buses and this is because trains go first to Tel-Aviv and then change there to Jerusalem. The train comes every two hours and we do not recommend this option. In Tel Aviv the train stops at the “Hahagana” station and then you must wait on the same platform for a second train to take you to Jerusalem.

Private Taxi

Private taxis can be found outside the airport or you can arrange a taxi before you arrive and the driver will be waiting for you. Private taxi is good option when you want to save time, if you have bigger luggage or if you come to visit as a group with multiple travelers.  The taxi costs around 180 Shekels but always there is room for negotiations. Going to Jerusalem by a taxi takes around 30 minutes.
