Volunteer at local Schools in Palestine (1-12 Weeks)

The Volunteer at local Schools in Palestine program (1-12 Weeks) program is a volunteer program which is offered by the Palestinian Center – Go Palestine in Hebron. This program provides a great opportunity to those who want to visit Palestine while meeting Palestinian students at the local schools in Hebron. Very importantly, this program offers the opportunity for a volunteer to leave a positive impact on Palestinian society.

The Volunteer at local Schools in Palestine program (1-12 Weeks) will give you the opportunity to teach English and to participate in various educational activities, which are aimed at enhancing the English language skills of the Palestinian students in local schools in Hebron. This program includes your participation in English conversational sessions in the classroom, along with the organization of educational and entertainment activities.

English in Palestinian Local Schools

English is taught in many local schools in Palestine, as it is recognized as a valuable skill for personal and professional development. However, the quality of English language education varies widely, with some schools having limited resources and qualified teachers. Despite these challenges, many Palestinian students are eager to learn English and recognize its importance in a globalized world.

Efforts are being made by organizations and individuals to improve English language education in Palestine, through initiatives such as teacher training programs, English language summer camps, and language exchange programs. With continued support and investment, English language education in Palestinian local schools can be improved and provide greater opportunities for Palestinian students.

What Volunteer in a Palestinian local school program includes?

  • Conversational English allows Palestinian students to practice speaking the language. Since Palestine is generally a closed country, this program gives Palestinians, especially children, and young adults, the chance to meet, interact, and speak with English speakers from all corners of the world.
  • Student participation in educational activities, such as games, gives the students the chance to speak English and express themselves. Interactive conversation practice results in the broadening of a student’s English vocabulary skills.

How Do I Get A Visa To Enter Palestine?

Visas are routinely granted upon arrival at Ben Gurion Airport (Tel Aviv) if you are a citizen of an exempted country, or at the Allenby-King Hussein Bridge border crossing; Hamas controls the border in Gaza with Egypt. Tourist visas are valid for 90 days; most Americans and Europeans are issued three-month visas upon arrival and clearing customs.

If your home country does not have an exemption agreement with Israel, you will have to procure a visa from the Israeli embassy/consulate at home before you visit. Because many Arab countries do not accept Israeli stamps upon passports, Israel now issues their visa on a separate small card with a bar code indicating the visa time validity. Please keep this visa card WITH your passport at all times. You may check to see whether your native country participates in a visa exemption agreement.

Do I need to know how to speak Arabic?

No, volunteers are not obligated to know Arabic. The Center will provide you with three hours of Arabic lessons each week with one of our teachers. The participant can choose either to study Modern Standard Arabic (Fusha) or Spoken Arabic Language (known as Ammyia) once they start their program.

Can I add more Arabic hours to my hours in the program?

Yes, volunteers can add additional Arabic language instruction hours. Each extra hour costs $20.00. Please mention this in your application.
