Electricity in Palestine

You may be wondering what sort of electrical system is used in Palestine, or whether you should bring an adapter or converter for your devices, as well as what sort of electrical outlets are in use in Palestine.

Palestine uses Type “H” outlets. These outlets accept both types of a pin, round pin, and flat pin plugs. If your plug does not fit with these type “H” sockets, you need to bring a plug adapter. Universal adapters provide a number of options for various types of outlets such as type “H”.

The electrical system runs on a current of 220 to 240 volts AC, so if your device is built for 220-240 volt, laptops and computers usually run on up to 220), you need no adapter, but if the device needs 110 or 120 AC, such as North America, you need to have a converter and/or adapter.

For general information purposes, Palestine does not produce its electricity. All the electrical needs of Palestinian consumers are met by Israel through its company called Israel Electric Corporation (IEC). Palestine receives its electricity by purchasing it from this company. Electricity is then provided to consumers through Palestinian distribution companies.

In addition to electricity, oil and natural gas are obtained through Israeli sources. This means that Palestine is totally dependent upon Israel in meeting the needs of energy sources for Palestinian consumers. Only one energy source is Palestinian, and, as of yet, it is not developed; this is the Gaza Marine Gas Field which was discovered in 1998. Since electricity is not produced locally, the possibility of its being cut off exists.
